It seems clear now that we have reached the top of the oil curve and, the top of other fossil fuel source curves soon (on an historical time scale). For the experiment exact timings are not critical.
Consideration of the facts indicates that we will soon be sitting in the bathtub curve of net useful energy, with a rapid falloff at the plughole end a gradual build up of renewables etc. at the other.
The depth of the bath and its length, the amount of net useful energy, will depend on how we manage the transition from fossil fuels to renewables and the amount of goods and services this provides will depend on how fast we can dematerialise them.
